Edinburgh, a walk, a job and a garden

The gardens and a walk home from work

-17 °C

As some of you already know Rach has got herself a job. Yay Rach whoooowhoowhowo. This now means that the pressure is right off me and I can just bum around home, read books and write blogs which I know you all love and treasure so much.

To get myself up in the morning I have been walking Rach to work. About a 20min walk through the 'new town' (only 200 to 300 years old). So here's a glimpse of what I get to look at on my stroll home from dropping Rach off to make us some dosh.

This is the street Rach works on, Chester St

The Royal Botanic Gardens are right round the corner from where we live. To kill time one of the waiting days before Rach started work we went for a walk round the gardens and through the massive glass house and indoor gardens.

You get a little radio that tells you about the different plants as you go round. There’s heaps of different rooms all kept at different temperature's and humidity’s. Stinking hot and humid in the jungle rooms and dry and dusty in the desert rooms.

They even has a fern room, felt like we were deep in the NZ bush (got a little bit homesick 'sob').

After the glass house we tried to find some British wildlife (squirrels). Rach had brought a banana which we used to lure them to us. They are really tame and will come right up and eat out of your hand. Cute little buggers aren't they.

HI Guys, Great you have got a job already Rach, no doubt you get home tired and Jamie has tea ready, washing folded, the flat clean and you put your feet up and read the paper till you are ready to eat. The neighbourhood you are working in looks so beautiful. Your photos are fantastic. I should be studying for 3 exams to finish the Semester. Russ and I are off to Aus in a couple of weeks. Will catch up with his family in Brisbane. Has finally got cold in NZ the last few days. Lots of snow in the South Island. I'm talking about the weather so should go. Take care and keep your wits about you. Love Karen

Hi J&R
You look like you are settling into life in Edinburgh very well. Good that Rach has a job, and I hope you get one very soon Jamie - at least you walk Rachel to work (thats a start!) And what an interesting walk it is - you would never get tired of looking at those beautiful old buildings. The Edinburgh Castle is very impressive, and the Royal Botanic Gardens look absolutely beautiful, especially the glasshouse and indoor gardens. I can imagine that the fern-room would make you feel a bit homesick! The squirrels are certainly cute - I didnt realise they had squirrels over there! Anyway, do keep on enjoying your experience on the other side of the world, and look after each other.

Ok everyone else has said profound and nice comments... all I have to say is oh my gosh I thought that the 2nd to last photo (Rachel-feed-squirrel) and the 3rd to last photo (Squirrel-on-tree) were the same one photo. I thought MAN THATS A BIG SQUIRREL sitting on that tree while Rachel feeds that baby one.
But then I stopped being silly and realized it wasn't the same photo... can you see what I mean though?!?!?! Squirrel-Zilla!
Anywho loves youse hope all is swell!!

Do you mean "confusion" or "confession"? Hmmm. Just wondering. I confess I'm confused.
